Pictures from the evening (Facebook)

Next club summer session is Friday 13th July, 6:30pm, at Sowerby Bridge slalom course. Meet up point is here. For sat nav, HX6 2LN will get you very near.

Here’s a couple of vids from our last trips there: Video Video

Sowerby Bridge has some good grade 2 pool/drop rapids to practice on, good for surfing waves etc. Bring money as we may end up in a pub/beer garden after paddling.

If anyone requires equipment please let Andy Walker know before Thursday 12th July by email or text/mobile 07748 111819. Please ensure that you wear suitable clothing and footwear for kayaking in – no wellies, no bike helmets etc. An old pair of trainers is good, wet suit shoes are on sale at the moment in Lidl and Aldi for a fiver a pair, these are ideal – barefoot or socks will not be permitted. If you are unsure, drop Andy or Tony an email.

Spraydecks/Cags/BAs etc can be requested from Andy – let him know sizes (S/M/L).

It is IMPORTANT that people let us know if they plan to attend so we can ensure any last minute changes due to water levels etc are communicated.

If you wish to come along, please confirm your attendance via email to one of these club members:

The first of the summer evening club cruises will be held on Friday 6th July at 6:30pm, on the River Calder.

The plan is to meet and start at Healey WF5 8NE and paddle down to the Bombardier at Horbury Junction Industrial Estate. WF4 5ER

Bring money as we will end up in the beer garden of the Navigation pub.

This is a good, easy river for people who fancy trying moving water and ideal for practicing your ferry gliding.

Please ensure that you wear suitable clothing and footwear for kayaking in – wellies are bad, as are football boots and clogs. An old pair of trainers is good, wet suit shoes are on sale at the moment in Lidl and Aldi for a fiver a pair, these are ideal – barefoot or socks will not be permitted.

Spraydecks/Cags/BAs etc can be requested from Andy – let him know sizes (S/M/L etc).

It is IMPORTANT that people let us know if they plan to attend so we can ensure sufficient safety cover and also communicate any last minute changes due to water levels etc.

Sandsend Weekends – please book by 16th March

We are planning further surf & camping weekends at Sandsend near Whitby, returning to Higher Straggleton Farm

http://www.highstraggleton.co.uk/

Prices are £12 per pitch per night based on 2 adults including children, additional adults are charged at £2.50 per night and electric hook up is £3 per pitch per night.

We will be sited together as a family group.

No arrival/departure times so we can arrive/depart when it suits.

No charge for dogs but they are expected to be kept on a lead and cleaned up after when on the campsite.

There are fields around the campsite where dogs can be walked and don’t need to be on a lead.

Dates are:

·         April 27th / 28th / 29th – up to 2 nights departing Sunday

·         June 22nd / 23rd  – up to 2 nights departing Sunday

·         August 25th / 26th / 27th – up to 3 nights departing Sunday / Monday

We need to let the site know approximate number of units for each weekend, so that they can allow sufficient space for us.

This is important if we are to stay together as a group and it is unlikely we will get further allocation in June or August Bank holiday weekends.

Please can you let Steve Arundale know by e-mail which weekends you plan to attend – stephenarundale@aol.com by Friday 16th March.

We will firm up final confirmation and electric requirements with the camp site 2 weeks before each weekend, so if you need to drop out, no problem. No booking fee required.

There may also be some static caravans available, please book these directly with campsite, if required.

All the best

Steve A

The plan for this Sunday is to paddle the River Wharfe from Hebden to Barden Tower. This is a grade 2/3 stretch which is suitable for most when the river is at reasonable levels. The plan is to meet at 9:30am at Barden Tower in the lay-by over the bridge on the far side of the river. Go past the Tower car park and take the next right and follow the road down over the river.

It is IMPORTANT that people let us know that they plan on attending so we can organise enough competent people for safety and leadership on the river as well as the trip location possibly changing due to water levels. It is vital that we have sufficient safety cover, and if this isn’t the case trip numbers could be limited. The final say on who can attend the trip is down to the organisers.

Please note anyone not confirming they are attending could be turned away on the day. The organisers do not accept any responsibility for people turning up when a trip has been cancelled or the meeting place changed, if we do not know you are attending.

This trip is only open to WYCC members.

Please confirm your attendance via email before 10pm Fri 2nd Mar to:

On Saturday 14th Jan, a few of us are planning to go paddling to Sowerby Bridge for a couple of hours on the slalom course. At the moment there is Andy Walker, Tony and Karen Thompson, Andy Smith and Steve Arundale planning to be there. If anyone else is interested in paddling please let Andy Walker know, just so he has an idea of numbers or if levels become too high.

We plan to meet in the car park at the industrial units, immediate right after crossing the river around 12:00.
