2025 is the platinum year of West Yorkshire Canoe Club – 70 years in existence. With no small thanks to every club member, volunteer, coach, and supporter, past and present, we look forward to a strong and vibrant future.

A quick reminder of our annual new years day paddle for those competant on white water, details below.
Due to the strong winds forecast tomorrow morning at the navigation, we’ve made the decision to forego the paddling in the morning.
💨Winds have been very strong in Wakefield today and much the same is forecast tomorrow, with winds of 22-40 knots (25-46mph) and with an westerly wind direction, will be bearing directly down the path of the canal &river meaning little shelter – it will be hard work and we’ll likely get blown about quite a bit.
🥾For those still wanting to get some exercise and steps in, we’re going to walk the canal towpath, about 10am meeting instead now!
🎉Were still holding the party and buffet still, so please come join us for Christmas gathering and some lunch

We wanted to drop you all a reminder of the upcoming Santa Paddle and Buffet coming up!
Celebrating the club’s 70th anniversary. Continuing from last year, we are going to organise a Christmas Paddle, free to all club members.
Afterwards, we will have a Christmas party with buffet food, with the request for a small contribution for.
Please book on ASAP so we have a good idea of numbers etc for the paddlers and buffet.

We are pleased to report to members of the club the return of Friday evening pool sessions.
Since Batley baths had closed, we have been searching for a pool venue that would be suitable and that would accommodate Paddlesport in the pool.
We are thrilled to announce we have secured a trial booking of the pool with Minsthorpe Leisure Centre, in South Elmsall. Although outside of our traditional operating area, still a new pool with excellent facilities and enables the club the opportunity to draw in membership from a new area of West Yorkshire.
The first session is being held on the 13th December 2024, and then fortnightly sessions from the 10th January 2024. Sessions are £10 per person.
Kayaking and Paddleboarding (yes, you read correctly) are permitted. Your own boats are permitted providing they are clean, dry and disinfected before entry. Dirty boats will be turned away.
We all know how difficult it is to secure pool bookings for kayak clubs, so please make every effort to support the club and attend these sessions.
A river session either on the Calder, or on the Calder & Hebble Navigation. Suitable for all, there are some rapids to learn some river skills and also some still/slow moving water to have a gentle paddle.
