———MERRY CHRISTMAS——

We would like to wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Its been a great year with lots of activity within the club and lots of new faces throughout the summer. This year we have introduced Stand Up Paddleboarding and lots of members have tried this new paddlesport and really enjoyed it. The summer sessions were blessed with fantastic weather throughout the whole season drawing in many younger paddlers who will hopefully return next year.

Looking ahead to 2020 we could see more watersports appearing on Pugneys hopefully as Wakefield Council has put the watersports section out to tender and there has been interest from several companies so fingers crossed.

Next year should also see the final completion of Linton Whitewater course after many setbacks this year. We have had several tests at the course and even without the blocks etc. the course was good. This should allow us to offer members practice on whitewater at variable levels and also could provide a venue for a WYCC slalom event.

The committee would like to thank all members and participants for their continued support over the past year and we are all looking forward to an even better 2020.

AGM

Just a quick reminder about our AGM tomorrow night 26th November 7.30pm at Ossett Cricket Club.

ALL members are welcome and we ask as many as possible to come along and get involved with running your club over the next 12 months.

If you have any ideas for next year or would like to see something different or new please come along and have your say.

Pie and Peas supper will be served after the meeting.

River Season

As winter approaches we are now closing Pugneys sessions and will begin river trips and river training.

This coming Saturday 9th November we are planning a river trip hopefully on the River Ure near Ripon. The trip should be OK for any club members who are confident paddling in a kayak and using a spray deck subject to water levels on the day.

We may be able to transport a limited number of boats if members are wanting to borrow kit but we need to know in advance if anyone requires boats or kit – we need to know latest Thursday.

If you are interested in paddling with us please get in touch via Facebook or drop a mail to club secretary

Any updates will be posted on Facebook as the location or river can be changed at the last minute.

On Saturday’s when we haven’t organised a trip we will look to offer river training for any club members who want to improve their skills on whitewater. The training will mainly be on the River Calder near Ossett but could also be at the Whitewater course at Sowerby Bridge.

Details will be posted on Facebook during the week before the session – please send a message if you would be interested in attending, again we can organise for members to borrow boats and kit but we do require some notice.

Please note any trips or training are only open to full club members. The decision of who can paddle will be made by the organisers on the day.

Pugneys

We will be back at Pugneys today 14th September.

Please come along today and have a paddle in the sun.

There is dragon boat racing on also today so the site will be busy with lots of people moving around. On the lake we will have to keep away from the races but also should give us a great view to watch the races.

Hopefully we will see lots of you later today – we will be there from around 12pm.

WASHBURN – CONFIRMED

Its that time of the year again – West Yorkshire Canoe Club’s annual Washburn event is fast approaching.

This is a chance for members to paddle one of Yorkshires best whitewater river runs. This is a dam release so the water level is guaranteed however little rain we have had.

We have now had confirmation that we have water on both the Saturday and Sunday so we can run the full weekend.

We will be organising our own catering for the second year, this year we plan to offer more hot food such as chip butties, burger and chips etc. Some members have already committed to come along and help out but if last years event is anything to go by we will require plenty of club members to come along and help out for a few hours.

The river is fast flowing grade 2/3 so not suitable for novices but any members who feel they would like to paddle please have a chat with a member of the committee to ensure suitability.
