This is a rescheduled trip following last months cancellation due to the snow.
I’m planning a paddle of the Upper Tees on Sunday 21st April, subject to water levels once again.
This is a mainly grade 2 paddle with some more technically challenging sections and two major grade 3/4 features, the S-bend (or Dogleg) and Low Force (a 10-foot drop over a waterfall). The trip is definitely not for beginners however all the big features can be walked if you don’t fancy running a particular one.
The put in point is just off the B6277 outside Middleton-in-Teesdale.
The plan is to meet at the bacon butty bar at Scotch Corner at 9:30am.
It is IMPORTANT that people let me know that they plan to attend so I can collate names and organise safety cover. Additionally, if the trip is cancelled or moved due to water levels, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and trouble. The paddle will only take place if there is sufficient numbers of competent paddlers which is why I need an indication of who’s going as soon as possible please.
Water level gauge should be around 0.5-0.7, lower and it’s scrapey, higher and it can become a tad more challenging – 0.6 is ideal.
Please confirm your attendance via email asap to me at tonythompson@pobox.com or post a reply on this page on the website.
Cheers
