At last we can get back onto the water as the lockdown is eased.
Events for this weekend have been added to the calendar. This week we are looking at running sessions on the river in the morning and Pugneys in the afternoon.
We are now allowed to run sessions up to 15 people in total including coaches and participants (in line with guidance from British Canoeing).
Morning river sessions:
Session one: 10.00 – 12.00pm
If the first session becomes full we will add a second morning session. If anyone is feeling brave the river is quite low and slow flowing so would be suitable for paddle boarding if any members have a board and want to give it a try on the river.
The café at the river is not open yet but the owner will be on site and if we pre order sandwiches or drinks they will prepare these for delivery before the session, we have not managed to sort out online ordering yet but if you would like a sandwich or drink please make a note in the booking form of what you would like and then we can order for payment on Saturday.
Afternoon Pugneys session:
Session two: 1.00 – 3.00pm
Changing rooms within the main building are not presently available, so please arrive at the session prepared as best as possible and be prepared to change at your car / outside. For current up-to-date information about current amenities at Pugneys, see the page below:
https://www.wakefield.gov.uk/sport-health-and-leisure/leisure-centres-and-facilities/pugneys-country-park It is NOT possible to change in our container or leave any belongings inside. Also please remember anyone – paddlers or spectators are NOT allowed past the wooden fence without a buoyancy aid – sorry there are no exceptions to this rule.
We are still waiting for details regarding the car park at Pugneys. Beginning April the car park will be free for the first 2 hours and then payment will be required but this system will not really work for paddlers who are on the water so hopefully we will have an update regarding this shortly.
Depending on the wishes of the group and the weather, we can either paddle around the lake or stay in the sheltered area.
The cost for borrowing equipment is £10.00 per person for any session, we have had to increase the costs as we spent a large amount of club funds on new equipment and refurbishing the trailer. Even with the increased costs we still offer one of the lowest sessions costs in the area.
Anyone who has not paddled with the club before MUST complete a taster session before joining regular sessions, this allows us to assess any new members and run over club safety procedure’s etc. Taster sessions can be booked either on the river or Pugneys session.
PLEASE can all participants bear in mind there is still a high risk of Covid infection and while we are allowed a larger number of people on the water social distancing must remain in place off the water. Please ensure when coming along to sessions you do not socialise with other members while sorting out kit etc. and once you have picked up your kit move away from the trailer area and sort out your kit with your family members or bubble.
