A pool training session to practice skills in a controlled enviroment.
Kayaks and Stand up paddleboards are welcome on the pool, observing some rules, however we may have to cap the numbers of users on paddleboards due to space in the pool.
Great chance to practice capsizes, support strokes (to keep you upright if you begin to capsize) and from then, learn how to roll in your kayak.
We will run sessions targeting particular skills. Sessions we may run:
Capsizes & Spray Decks - Great for getting comfortable with performing a capsize and getting compentnece to be able wear a spray deck on a river session
Support Strokes/Braces - Learn how to stop a capsize before it happens by 'Bracing', using your hips and paddle to prevent a capsize.
Rolling Practice - Learn to roll your Kayak upright by performing a roll, great for confidence building especially when playing in waves/holes/river features. A nose clip is recommended!
Use of your own boats is permitted, however these must be cleaned sprayed and inspected before being allowed into the pool. Dirty boats and kit will not be allowed into the pool.
⚠️ Kayaks ⚠️ - No Seal Launches permitted on the edge of the pool.
⚠️Paddleboards ⚠️ - All paddleboarders must wear a helmet. Only attempt standing on the board when you are a boards length away from the edges.
⏰ Please arrive no later than 15 mintues before the start of the session, as all boats need to be sanitised before entering the pool. Arriving 15 minutes early will enable us and the leisure centre staff to get all the equipment in the pool. Arriving early means we can start the session on time you get to paddle for the full hour.
