Updated with photos – Upper Tees, Mon 7th May

A non-club organised paddle on the Upper Tees is being planned for Bank Holiday Monday, 7th May. I’ve posted it here in case anyone from the club fancies coming along. If you do, please let me, TT, know via email, text or Facebook as soon as poss so any last minute changes/cancellations can be communicated.

This is a grade 3/4 run with two main features, the S-bend (or Dogleg) and Low Force (a 10-foot drop over a waterfall) with a number of smaller rapids along the way.

The meeting/put in point is just off the B6277 outside Middleton-in-Teesdale. The plan is to meet at 10am and spend a few hours on the river. There are plenty of opportunities to walk around any features you don’t fancy doing and we’ll be obviously getting out to look at the big ones prior to running and setting up safety.

Meet up point is here

Cheers

Washburn Release Sun 6th May

A few shots from the day courtesy of the Carey family…

A few members of the club are again planning to attend the Washburn release on Sunday 6th May which is being organised by White Rose Canoe Club. This is not a club event but if anyone fancies coming along, you are more than welcome to join us. As usual, you will need to have some experience of fast moving white water and be able to break in/out of eddys.

There is a cost for going on the water – £9 for adults – for the day. Bring your membership card if possible to show you are a member of WYCC (or other club) as there may be a surcharge of £4.50 if not.

The release starts at 9am and runs through until 5pm. There is no shuttle on although we ‘may’ provide our own. Food is available.

Should be a good day out – weather forecast is showing as being good and no rain. We’re aiming to be there for 9am to watch the release 🙂

Hopefully see some of you there.

River Calder, Healey – 17th Mar 2012

As there is no river run this weekend, we will be having another practice session on the Calder at Healey, this Saturday (17th) at 1pm. If anyone is interested in attending, please feel free to come along. The weather is forecast to be quite mild, 13’C. Plan is to just spend a couple of hours playing and practicing…

For those familiar with the place, the wave down the bottom end was rather good last Sunday and the rocks we placed there last year to build up the wave are still there.

For those not familiar, it is a good place for practicing your surfing, ferry gliding and general white water skills (it is the place Mike has used on numerous occasions previously for his white water practice sessions and our summer evening sessions).

You will need to bring your own boat and kit unfortunately as we have no way of transporting club boats ourselves.

Thanks

Sandsend Weekends – please book by 16th March

We are planning further surf & camping weekends at Sandsend near Whitby, returning to Higher Straggleton Farm

http://www.highstraggleton.co.uk/

Prices are £12 per pitch per night based on 2 adults including children, additional adults are charged at £2.50 per night and electric hook up is £3 per pitch per night.

We will be sited together as a family group.

No arrival/departure times so we can arrive/depart when it suits.

No charge for dogs but they are expected to be kept on a lead and cleaned up after when on the campsite.

There are fields around the campsite where dogs can be walked and don’t need to be on a lead.

Dates are:

·         April 27th / 28th / 29th – up to 2 nights departing Sunday

·         June 22nd / 23rd  – up to 2 nights departing Sunday

·         August 25th / 26th / 27th – up to 3 nights departing Sunday / Monday

We need to let the site know approximate number of units for each weekend, so that they can allow sufficient space for us.

This is important if we are to stay together as a group and it is unlikely we will get further allocation in June or August Bank holiday weekends.

Please can you let Steve Arundale know by e-mail which weekends you plan to attend – stephenarundale@aol.com by Friday 16th March.

We will firm up final confirmation and electric requirements with the camp site 2 weeks before each weekend, so if you need to drop out, no problem. No booking fee required.

There may also be some static caravans available, please book these directly with campsite, if required.

All the best

Steve A

Don’t forget to register your interest for the Ilfracombe annual club holiday!

The time of year has come to organise the annual club holiday / trip.

Looking at various locations and options we have chosen to hit North Devon again. North Devon has much more consistent suitable surfing conditions, there are also plenty of attractions for non-paddlers and families, and the beaches and scenery are fantastic.

The proposed dates are Sat 4th Aug to Sat 11th Aug and to stay at Watermouth Valley Campsite, just outside of Combe Martin as seen here:

http://www.watermouthpark.co.uk/

Please let Adrian or Richard know if you are interested as soon as possible and by Friday 10th Feb at the latest please.
