River Irwell, Sun 28th Oct

The next river we’ll be paddling is the Irwell on Sun, 28 October, 09:30 – 15:30. Meet at Nuttall Country Park, Ramsbottom at 9:30am. This is a grade 2/3 run, including an 18ft weir which we slide down 🙂

If you wish to join us, please ensure you let TT know (tonythompson@pobox.com or text my usual mobile number).
This is very important due to potential water levels and to ensure there is enough safety cover.

Here’s a video to get you in the mood

Club membership now due

Please note that club membership fees are now due for the next year (2012/2013). Club membership entitles you to attend river trips, club holidays, lower fees for pool and Pugneys sessions and free parking at Pugneys as well as the opportunity to vote at the AGM in November to help influence the direction of your club.

2012/2013 Membership fees for the club are as follows:

£25 family
£15 individual

Membership fees should be paid as soon as possible. Cheques should be made payable to West Yorkshire Canoe Club.

Please ensure you fill in a new membership form with the payment (see below).

BECOMING A CLUB MEMBER

Membership of WYCC is open to anyone who wishes to enjoy canoeing/kayaking in a relaxed atmosphere.

All WYCC members recognise that Canoeing and Kayaking are ‘Assumed risk’ ‘water contact sports’ that may carry attendant risks. All WYCC members should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own action and involvement.

To become a club member requires you to have attended the regularly held pool or Pugneys sessions 3 times (see ‘Where to find us?‘ for further details).

Lower Wharfe paddle, 14th Oct

The plan for this Sunday 14th Oct is to paddle the lower section of the River Wharfe from Burnsall/Hebden to Barden Tower. This is a mainly grade 2 section with a small stretch of 3 at Appletreewick (which can be walked around) and is suitable for most when the river is at reasonable levels. The plan is to meet at 9:30am at Barden Bridge in the lay-by on the far side of the river. Go past the Tower car park and take the next right down the hill and follow the road over the bridge.

It is IMPORTANT that people let me know that they plan on attending so we can collate names and organise enough competent people for safety and leadership on the river. Additionally, if the trip is cancelled or moved due to water levels, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and trouble.

Closest water level gauge (level should ideally be below 0.4m for a steady beginners paddle)

You can view a webcam of the river at Burnsall here: Webcam for river level at Burnsall

Note that this trip is only open to WYCC members. You will also need to take your own gear or transport club gear yourselves.

Please confirm your attendance via email before 10pm Fri 12th Oct to tonythompson@pobox.com or post a reply on this page.

West Tanfield Slalom still taking place

West Tanfield slalom is taking place. Currently the water condition will prove challenging to Div 4 paddlers but the expectations are that the water levels will continue to drop, but it remains unpredictable how far.
The event is now full and we will not be taking entries on the weekend with the exception of recently promoted paddlers
